REMEMBRANCE
Wayside shrines have been European tradition for centuries and are still found today along the streets and roads of Europe. Wayside shrines are a permanent part of the Polish landscape, of which it is an undeniable embellishment. They are part of Polish culture and fidelity of tradition. While initially conceived as a typological catalogue of these poignant landmarks, the project took on a life of its own, evolving into a comprehensive documentation of Polish culture and fidelity to tradition.
Working with the Hasselblad camera felt like a ritual, each shot a solemn acknowledgment of the lives commemorated by these shrines. The slow, deliberate workflow mirrored the reverence with which these traditions are upheld, forming a cohesive and evocative visual style.
Through this series, I present the journey of remembrance and reflection, where each shrine tells a story of loss, love, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit.
