STANDING UP IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (SUMS)
In collaboration with Fotonow, I had the honor of documenting the "Standing Up in Multiple Sclerosis" project, a management standing frame program facilitated by Plymouth University for individuals living with progressive MS. Through the lens of my camera, I delved into the intimate lives of two participants within the comfort of their home dwellings, capturing both the practical usage of the standing frame and the profound emotional impact it has had on their lives.
Each photograph serves as a testament to the resilience and strength of these individuals as they navigate the challenges presented by MS. From demonstrating the proper technique of using the standing frame to articulating the newfound sense of liberation and freedom it has afforded them, their stories resonate with authenticity and courage.
Through this visual narrative, I aimed to shed light on the transformative power of adaptive technologies in the lives of those with MS. The standing frame symbolizes more than just physical support; it represents a beacon of hope, empowerment, and possibility. It is a tool that not only assists in maintaining physical functionality but also serves as a catalyst for regaining confidence, independence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
By showcasing the experiences of these participants, I hope to raise awareness and foster understanding of the daily realities faced by individuals living with MS. Through empathy and compassion, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment that enables everyone to stand tall and thrive despite the challenges they may encounter.
